Whatever is easier to keep clean, in my opinion.

And I'm removing all the seam sealer to stitch weld the entire chassis for a bit of extra stiffness. Can't hurt after it having been around for ~26 years (01/85 build).

Wow it is so nice to see a golf this clean out there. Its not slammed and cambered on bbs like all the other ones out there. Your really taking your time and doing things right, gives me so much inspiration on my mkII. Really detail oriented and its definetly going in the right direction.

It's indeed not about slamming it to the pavement, though it is going to go on coilover's eventually just to get the stance right. Not to worry; i'm working on a full OEM setup aswell.

To the point; got the brake servo off(couldn't get in the car before), it's on wheels now

      Bit of mokking up:

I've been following this thread here and there...... The cam caps look like they are at an offset. Is there any particular reason for this?

Coilovers are good, to rough for me though. Im incredibly happy with my H&R cup kit, smooth ride and handles excellent. Really impressed. Thats just me though. A full OEM setup would be perfect for your car. Cant wait to see you rocking coilvers, it is a great way to get the stance right. Cant imagine your car looking better than it did when it was put together.

not that I know off, head is still at the machine shop, they sent me these pictures just so i'm sure it was ready to pick it up.

Maybe they're on the wrong studs.

Yeah or just flipped the wrong way. I thought maybe this was a subtle joke like the head is done check it out and wait a minute something doesn't seem right, lol! I think what you are doing with your car is awesome! I live in Eastern USA and have a Geriatric 90' MK2 VR6. It would be great to have a garage space to work on it. I want to put it on a rotisserie and do a rustoration with it. You do awesome clean-up and restoration to your parts. Goodluck and I can't wait to see more progress and pics.

I can totally appreciate everything you're doing to your car, as I'm in the same boat (except I pulled all the wiring as well - it's actually very simple to re-arrange).

where did you buy the battery tray? The US dealer has about 30 in stock at $128 per.

Awesome rebuild, mate! Love the level of detail on your project, hope to do the same to my car one day.

How are you going to do the welds? A full seam, grinded flat and painted as if no tractor accident ever happened?

The USRT kit is top notch. Another alternative is: http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/ForSa...#A2TypicalKits

      Either will do you right.

And those shiny bits look delish.
