    1. VW Golf 42 061.
    2. Ford Fiesta 31 432.
    3. VW Polo 30 477.
    4. Renault Clio 28 111.
    5. Opel/Vauxhall Corsa 26 747.
    6. Peugeot 207 26 127.
    7. Opel/Vauxhall Astra 25 289.
    8. Ford Focus 22 836.
    9. Renault Mégane 21 662.
    10.Fiat Panda 21 205.

Polo is closing down on Fiesta so VW could be in for a 1-2 the next month.
Renault Clio is still going very strong, especially considering it's nearing it's model cycle end.
Opel Astra is a slight letdown, nowhere near the Golf this time.

This VW Golf VI has been a best-seller in many european countries, it think it has been more successful than the mkv, sometimes overtaking national brands like France and Italy (in Italy it has been the top seller in its segment)

Personally, I quite like the new Astra. Unlike the previous generations (even though the last one was a decent design job), this one has got a bit of potential to turn heads. There's even a flashy mini-site _here_ with some douchebag from the design department under "Visualizer". Quite interesting, if you can stand the corporate bull****.

(Anyway, how come you can't say ****? Is it okay to say poo? Where's the line?)

I don't like it one bit. Too big, at 4.42 meters 22 cm longer then the Golf, yet offers neither more space for the passengers nor a bigger boot. Too heavy, too overgeared(to compensate for the weight and to bring the fuel consumption down).

The interior is overdesigned, too many small buttons. All in all, nowhere near the Golf, and it shows.

Well that explains the low sale figures. I should probably add that I haven't really had the chance to get close to it.

However, its refreshing to see that Opel are trying to bring in some character and a design language that shows some pride instead of just plain blandness. It's possible that character is the new bland though since the design language of most modern cars are quite busy and extrovert compared to their often more held back predecessors.

"One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that if you drive into London at 6am, half of the cars on the roads are Porsches and Astons. Whereas if you go in at ten to nine, they’re all Renaults. Simple solution, then. You want a nice car? Get up earlier and do more work."
