Not paying a dime over MSRP. I'll find out soon enough when I might get one.

So a salesman called me yesterday on arrival of 3 new BRZ onto the lot. I drop by today, find salesman, and find out they are all gone already. It was apparently a feeding frenzy, with the cars going for 5-8k above sticker. Shadily enough btw, they were all presold, but i guess i was one of many called to come in to do a de facto bid for markup. This is So Cal.
Anyway, anyone else got initial impressions on demand?

I wonder if they'd let me test drive one... I doubt it... worth a shot though?

I would say probably not. Not at this time anyway. If they have any at the dealer they are probably already sold. Might as well try though.

This is a good example these Saturn or Scion's "no-haggle pricing" or "Pure pricing" will never work in US "auto stealer" industry. They are not built in an equal term between the dealership and customer. In these kind of "fixed pricing", customers have no right to bargain but dealership can still charge whatever they want. At least in Canada there is law that you cannot sell (new) car over MSRP. I am wondering if you guys can call Toyota (Scion) US office to complaint these kind of over charging.![]()

Over at the FT86 club website BRZ owners are just taking whatever color hits the dealer first. There is little indication of when new cars will come and what color they will be.

i definitely wouldn't pay the markup for something that will depreciate in value
with a new car, you only get the "is that a new car ?, why yes it is" once or twice
thats it

Scion dealers aren't allowed to advertise a price below the actual selling price. They can add a markup but they have to advertise it as such. That's how everyone found out about that one dealer down in Florida that was marking it up $7k, they advertised it on their facebook page.
However, Subaru dealers are free to do bidding war crap like the OP's situation.

spoke w/ a high school buddy who is a scion dealer. They sold all they had at msrp. Yes. It is a feeding frenzy.

As interested as i am, definitely waiting 1 year to let the car production line get sorted out, let the aftermarket get their mitts on the vehicle, and see if any performance model ETA's get announced. I am glad to see them getting snapped up though. For enthusiasts in a few years these will hopefully be the next Miata to get.

I don't have to be the first kid on the block with the newest anything. I can wait..... my buddy who is a Toyota/Lexus area rep says the car is a phenomenal handling car right out of the box, one of the best you can buy. Just needs a little more power to be perfect. He isn't biased either, he is a BMW guy to the core. He also says they frown on markup.... Here's hoping for a turbo version.

Judging from this BRZ/FT86 parade at latest Japanese D1GP, you'd think they're giving them away in Japan.

That BRZ on the right looks most excellent with those wheels.

Local Subaru dealer has a white auto listed for $29,788. I will say the car looks a lot better in person then in pictures.

Saw BRZ recently in the dark grey color, limited edition with spoiler and fogs. Looks real good, especially with the fancy LED strip turned on.
Anyway, noticing a couple things - stupid high dealer markups (several thousand right now) and also that both FR-S and BRZ depositors seem to be backing out a lot. I've had several calls on available cars that the depositors turned down after all. Yes, BRZ allotments are all "spoken for" for 2013, but I am sure a lot of those will fall through, so there will be plenty of available cars...

If someone pays $5-8k over sticker, they are stupid.

That could be simply because what was delivered did not live up to the hype.
People hoped it would be Miata NA weight, but expecting between NB and NC weight. Yes, it has newer safety requirements than NA, but it is a hardtop coupe, not a convertable.
Subaru was talking 2500lbs. Instead it showed up at ~2700lbs for the manual.
Power claims bounced around, but mentally, everyone was expecting it to be in the ball park of the same-cost WRX.
Then we find that several compromises were made, to reduce its actual performance for the sake of some people's idea of fun. They moved the engine forward signifcantly, changing it from an even 50/50 balance to a 6% differential. They lowered grip by a choice of 'high mileage' tires instead of performance tires. It came in as a 4 seater.
So, it seems designed to appeal to the less sophisticated person, who prefers more of hooligan driving, than true canyon carving and road racing. Or someone who wants a small family car, with some sporty-ness to it.
The promise of a no-compromise scalpel of a car did not pan out. Thou I do not blame Toyota/Subaru. They probably figured such a car would not achieve their long-term sales goals.
Maybe they'll release a version of that car in the future.

Those numbers were for BRZ. Still, yes, I think it's a bit absurd. I think those adjustments will disappear within a few months, if not a few weeks from official roll out.
PS: I will be ignoring Toyobaru trolls like JLJetta, in this thread and other Toyobaru threads. Please others do the same.
PPS: If possible, I will remove all posts by and responding to JLJetta in this thread. So please people, dont bother responding to him and his sad attention seeking. Thanks.

Don't get me wrong. I used to own a street scalpel.
Yamaha YZF-R1
It also was blazing fast, sub 10sec 1/4 mile stock.
After realizing I would kill myself, I stepped a little back on the insanity with the FJR.
For the road? I went with a cheaper E39. Mucho fun on mountain roads.![]()

Sounds like a pretty good feeding frenzy. I can't imagine it topping the 240Z though when it first hit the USA, and people were drooling for an affordable, reliable, sports car at the time.

Sat in an FRS today at the dealer but the car was sold so I couldn't drive it. Love the seating position and the steering wheel. Interior looked and felt pretty decent.
They're getting a manual white one in stock within the next week or so. The salesman said he had eight people to call once it arrived for test drives.

Was at Subaru dealer tonight, asked when they'd be getting some BRZ's. Said they'd sold one that was ordered and were allotted 2 more for the year! Couldn't believe it.
