IF you want one first, you will likely pay MSRP as someone mentioned above. if you are willing to wait you can get a bit of a deal. I got my last R for a pretty good discount. I think I got around 4-5% off MSRP. Not bad for a car that was supposed to be pre ordered.

      We will see.
That's a scary thought.... I am already writing the S3 off so long as the R comes in at 39 and change or less. Let's hope we don't lose that buying power.

I've heard that, but not looked into it much beyond research on 'the internet'….VW do it apparently, but not sure if this would also apply to Audis (leased through VW credit). I'm guessing they might if you were getting another Audi, but might not be as accommodating if going elsewhere. Will see -- I'll need to decide within the next month or two so I can get an order in at Audi if all else fails.

Fantastic piece of information! Thanks for sharing with us!

Can't wait for Februrary, even tho i MAY end up skipping MY2016 and go with 2017, depending on how much cash i will have accumulated and how much i can get for my low miles highline TDI.

Did a 3 year lease on the GTI in hopes of getting the R here with all of the goodies in it's second/third year trim. Thanks for this

Wow, this is all really good news, aside from lack of sunroof and the 19" Cadiz wheels. These are not deal breakers for me.

I'm really hoping for the LED tail lamps as well, but I imagine they're not coming since they weren't explicitly mentioned.

Best part for me is that the lease on my 2013 GTI is up a year from now and that I won't be tempted to end my lease too early, if at all.

They'll discount it closer to invoice for sure. I negotiated a discount on the MKVI R so I don't see why this version, being that it isn't a limited run, wouldn't also be discounted.

I'm hoping that the fact that the tail lamps weren't mentioned is more of a "we don't know for sure if we will get them yet" type of thing rather than "they aren't coming for sure so let's not mention it".

If it starts production in June, what does that make the delivery date for the first Rs arriving here, roughly speaking?

I'd expect August-September.... Along with all the other 2016's. VW Canada has confirmed Q3 multiple times and also stated "late summer". October is Q4 and fall, so I'd expect we'll see them before this.

I fully expect the first cars to arrive in August. At this point I have no idea what the initial production allocations will look like, so even if cars start arriving in August, it may be in relatively limited numbers.

The word limited reminds of another thing...even though the Golf R will be available for dealers to order throughout the model year (and as far as I know, subsequent model years), the total availability will be limited by production allocation to each market/country. In other words, even though it is "regular production", the volume will still have a limit. At this point, I do not know what that limit will be.

Basically like the STI. You can order one any time. But Canada only gets 400-500 per year so you CAN get lucky and claim one on the way over already or you have to put an order in and wait 8-12 weeks.

Any idea if there will be 2 and 4 door options available in Canada?

      Thanks,

Shouldn't you Canadians be freaking out that the 19s are standard?
In my opinion unless otherwise stated.

      Thanks,

I believe North America is only getting the 4 door. But I'm not sure if VW Canada has clearly stated this..... It's likely just an assumption on my behalf since the US is only getting 4 doors. Does anyone have any info from VW Canada clearly stating 4 door only?

Nope, there are bigger things in life to worry about than whether a car comes with 18's or 19's. We're just thankful the car is coming.

I'm actually ok with 19' standard on ****ty Edmonton roads, as long as they are NOT super-heavy and hyper-ugly Cadiz

I have family in Edmonton and there is no doubt you'll need 17 or 18 inch winter wheels now that these come standard with 19s. Ugly ones too.
In my opinion unless otherwise stated.

The Cadiz wheels really are horribly ugly. I don't think I've come across a single person that actually likes them.

This is one reason the S3 might make more sense for me - factor in $4k for summer wheels/tires and all of a sudden the price gap is smaller than it looks.

Well, $4k is a little much, I'd say more like $3k with some lightweight wheels and MPS tires. The problem is we don't have ANY idea of what the price would be. S3 starts from $44k...
