Jouko thanks for all your updates. I don't know if I can wait until August for this car. I'll be trading my 2013 S4 for it. Would you be interested in that trade?

is it going to be built in Germany or Mexico?

the CAN Dollar is actually doing better vs the Euro. It's not so much that our dollar is depreciating, it's that the US Dollar is gaining strength vs other world currencies.

so, if the R comes from Europe, there shouldn't be pressure on the price. And if it comes from Mexico, there should be savings in tariffs due to NAFTA.

or am i totally off base?

Mexico can't make AWD, yet IIRC. It's coming from Germany for now.

Yes, just the USD doing well against all other currencies. The fact that it would be made in Europe or Mexico probably wouldn't make a huge difference. Look at the new GTI - it's made in Mexico and it's not really any lower of a price than the previous version.

Well, technically it is. It's comparable in price, but better equipped :-)
I hope .:R continues the tendency and will show up priced just below $40k

Some here are calculating what the price will be based on the American exchange rate. However Canada just signed the new trade agreement with Europe. When will it take affect? So, calculating an exchange rate price doesn't necessarily hold true. As a result, I would expect the R price to fall below the US-CDN exchange rate.

The Free Trade Agreement with the EU won't take effect for a couple of years, if it ever does. And believe me, I want it to - I'm importing containers from Europe all the time and I'd love to save another 6-7% on our products.

The R will be in the low 40's for sure.

      Hey Jouko

Can you shed some light on the residuals that are US friends are getting ??

      I mean 70% on 10k
69% 12k and 67% on 15k are some pretty astonishing residuals on leasing the Golf R

Just doesn't make sense now or does it??

Please shed some light on this situation

      Thanks

      ^that!
From historical perspective, should we expect something similar? I mean, in 60%?
That would be some seriously amazing news!

HAHA, fishing bastards........ I love it when someone tries to get the new price for a 3 year old car... I only paid about 38 for mine new off the lot.

They can be had for the low 30s. I am curious like you about the factory lease risidual though. curious about the numbers in the states.

I wish I had some insight or wisdom to share regarding lease residuals. At this point, all I can tell you is that you know pretty much everything I know. Just a few weeks to go before the CIAS, I'm sure we will have something new to talk about at that point...

      and..
Will there be other wheel options?
Will there be a R sportswagen?
Will the LED tails be available?
      ...

I was listening to motoring 2015 on TSN and the VW rep was mentioning that we might have more options coming our way.

      Nice! Even better!

So tomorrow we get to learn more about the Focus RS and then all the details about the Canadian Golf R... I'll be pretty set to make a decision, by then!

Subscribed - can't wait to get my hands on one! Just left the 4x4 scene and I'm itching to get back into a performance car again!

Has anyone had any feedback from their dealers about the ordering process? I've been contacted by my dealer and they are setting up a venue for ordering on Thursday to coincide with the Canadian release of options and pricing. What are you expecting to pay for the car? Invoice price, MSRP, MSRP plus? Any comments would be great…especially from those who have ordered (an R) before.
