is it going to be built in Germany or Mexico?
the CAN Dollar is actually doing better vs the Euro. It's not so much that our dollar is depreciating, it's that the US Dollar is gaining strength vs other world currencies.
so, if the R comes from Europe, there shouldn't be pressure on the price. And if it comes from Mexico, there should be savings in tariffs due to NAFTA.
or am i totally off base?
Yes, just the USD doing well against all other currencies. The fact that it would be made in Europe or Mexico probably wouldn't make a huge difference. Look at the new GTI - it's made in Mexico and it's not really any lower of a price than the previous version.
Some here are calculating what the price will be based on the American exchange rate. However Canada just signed the new trade agreement with Europe. When will it take affect? So, calculating an exchange rate price doesn't necessarily hold true. As a result, I would expect the R price to fall below the US-CDN exchange rate.

The Free Trade Agreement with the EU won't take effect for a couple of years, if it ever does. And believe me, I want it to - I'm importing containers from Europe all the time and I'd love to save another 6-7% on our products.
The R will be in the low 40's for sure.
Can you shed some light on the residuals that are US friends are getting ??
I mean 70% on 10k
69% 12k and 67% on 15k are some pretty astonishing residuals on leasing the Golf R
Just doesn't make sense now or does it??
Please shed some light on this situation
They can be had for the low 30s. I am curious like you about the factory lease risidual though. curious about the numbers in the states.
Has anyone had any feedback from their dealers about the ordering process? I've been contacted by my dealer and they are setting up a venue for ordering on Thursday to coincide with the Canadian release of options and pricing. What are you expecting to pay for the car? Invoice price, MSRP, MSRP plus? Any comments would be great…especially from those who have ordered (an R) before.
