I've been wanting an R32 for years, but everyone I've found has either been too trashed or way out of my budget. I've been wanting to build the ultimate drivers R and I've finally found exactly what I've been looking for to start off with. 80k miles and only ran me 13k out the door. Had been on the lot less than 24 hours.

      Need to remove these tails

      Beautiful interior

      And a completely unmolested engine

Of course it has your typical MK4 problems, broken glovebox handle and passengers door module is out. Already have new belts, tensioner, haldex service kit and tails on the way.

      Welcome aboard.
Many people enjoy eating apples and oranges, but in the end they are still… just apples and oranges. The R32 is passion fruit. . Live Long and Prosper.

I'm thinking so but no promises. I'll mainly be focusing on stiffening the chassis and making the suspension more solid to start off with.

I consider my R a pretty good contender for best drivers car for the money.

      - V-Maxx Coilovers (don't hate! everyone who drives my car loves the feel)
      - Schrick Cam 264/260
      - UM Tune
      - 42DD Velocity Intake
      - 42DD Full Exhaust
      - Ported and Gasket matched exhaust manifolds
      - USP Test pipe with HFC
      - Blue Haldex controller
      - DieselGeek Sigma Short Shifter
      - No A/C (this part sucks for summer)
      - Gruven parts adjustable control arms - rear, top and bottom
      - Autopower Bolt in Cage (With plates under it to raise closer to the roof as I am tall)
      - Corbeau 'fat boy' seats which are surprisingly comfy
      - Soon to be no Sunroof

      - Strong reasonable weight 18's with CDW2's for Summer
      - Cheap 17's with Snow tires for winter.

It has 180k hard miles and never gives me any mechanical troubles. Pulls hard, corners enough, plays in the snow nicely, and even makes it up snowy mountains to take me skiing. lol

Sure it could be faster via S/C or Turbo, but this thing gets driven hard and never fails me.

Forgot to ask, are those tails just wrapped with tint/ tinted vinyl? they appear to be stock tails, maybe heat them with a heat gun a bit and peel off the tint? if they are spray painted night shades then you are out of luck, just buy some R/S/S/R's or any gti/r32 tails which are R/S/R/R.

They are painted with nightshade :/ I do have some RSRRs that should be here any minute now. I feel like driving this car I should put a giant sticker on the back apologizing for the blacked out tails

Nice work. Those tails were awful.

Very nice. Looks way better. Now black out that rear R32 badge or pull it off. Only bit of chrome on the car it seems. And hopefully you've done the flapper mod

Flapper mod was already done by previous owner

Also it will keep the R32 badges as some chrome VW emblems will be enroute soon aswell as a new wheel bearing :/

Finally did the haldex fluid and filter change, turns out the drain plug is almost stripped, looks like next time it's done I'll be pulling it out to add a helicoil

Also gave her the first proper wax job and added a Yakima rack I had laying in storage for a few years

Should be fun, need to source barrels and hardware now.
      Excited to build these up!

Got my faces from the powder coated. Debating on keeping them or selling them for all new suspension bits. Waiting on hardware now.

I'm probably biased so I'll try to reply in a more subtle way, plus a 'driver's .:R' means different things to different people, however I think any 'Ultimate Driver's .:R" still needs a lot more power than most n/a .:Rs have even with standard mods.

At least 300hp at the crank, but probably better if it was 300hp at the wheels assuming the car is standard weight. So a Powerdubs 300whp car with some extra light mods might qualify.

Around 400hp at the crank seems to be the well recognised 'sweet spot' and in my mind would need to be the minimum before any 'ultimate' labels start getting used. Plus of course all the well recognised handling mods.

Be ready to spend a pretty penny to achieve anything nearing 'ultimate'.

Well done. Always loved RS's on BMP. Looks like you chose satin silver for powder?

Thanks! And yes the color is Porsche Silver. Only thing I could find without a flake to it.

If I end up keeping the wheels I'll try and source some turbofans for them but I really wouldn't mind selling them to help start funding all the suspension bits I want.

      Got my new bolts in!

Pretty decent polish If I said so myself, could use a little bit more buffing

Also scored me some floor mats and a hood bra, can finally quit dirtying up my carpet

A few updates, took off the BBSs and started gearing it more towards performance

Picked up a new helmet for this season!

Some dirt cheap tires for some Ariettas (will only be used on track)

Got some goodies for prepping the car this weekend for this season!

Today I pulled out the coilovers, Friday I'll be putting OEM suspension back in!

Looking forward to this autocross season!

So long time with no updates, came across a steal of a deal on a spare engine with a spun rod bearing to start building up!IMG_0646 by justin lowe, on Flickr
      Started stripping it down
IMG_0768 by justin lowe, on Flickr
IMG_0769 by justin lowe, on Flickr
Didn't have a truck so had to use the Daily to transport it from my friends house to my storage unit
IMG_0796 by justin lowe, on Flickr
And then fit it all into the back of my R32 while it sits in storage waiting to be moved
IMG_0798 by justin lowe, on Flickr

I'll be placing it on an engine stand and start doing a more elaborate tear down once I move across country at the end of the month.
