Damn, that's a lot of driving.

Mine just went over 16,000, and I bought it in April 2015. But then the driving portion of my work commute is less than 10 miles round trip now and hasn't been more than 15 miles round trip since I bought it.

Impressive. I do about 22-23k per year in my daily driver. After taking the SS to work today and actually sitting in traffic, I kinda wish I was using it every day.

Been on basically every LT and LS V8 for over 20 years now.

If you are within a certain RPM threshold and below 20 MPH, a solenoid will force you to shift from 1st to 4th, for CAFE BS. You can override it by simply holding out the shift past 20 mph, or if you're going really slow just pop into neutral and then it's easier/less jarring to just put it in 3rd.

There are also other considerations, like engine operating temp, etc - but that's the jist.

I put in a skip shift eliminator. It plugs into the transmission.

Does it somehow lock the gates? I've never noticed this, except once when I was driving a GTO it had a "hard shift" issue that only happened once. Below 20mph explains it I guess.

I assume an ECU tune usually gets rid of this? The GTO was stock. I think I've only driven C5s and a CTS-V and those weren't stock.

What do y'all like most about your SS's? It seems like a great all around, muscular vehicle.
I like the fact it has so much room yet has that understated, Aussie muscle car thing going.

Other than the fact that you can't get an N/A V8 with a stick shift in any other sedan?

It's the reason why a lot of folks in TCL don't like it - the fact that it's completely under the radar. I could have bought an M3 or M5 if I wanted, but why be like every other northern VA toolbag? I can and do find many other ways to be a toolbag without factoring in my vehicle choices

Also, the fact that it's just plain comfortable to cruise around in, and can turn into a deranged lunatic at any moment is pretty sweet, too.

It definitely has an interesting character to it.
Kind of nice having the simplicity of a small block and that transmission
in a good all around car.

I had been thinking about leasing an M5 or an M6 Grand Coupe, but I didn't like the way they drove.

SS? It's like an E39 M5, but it begs to be beaten. It wants you to lay rubber into second. It wants you to have the exhaust crackle when you pass a bus of nuns. Why take this turn normally when you can take it sideways?

It's just a playful, hooligan car. And then you click it into touring, the steering gets light, the exhaust shuts up, it rides well, and it's a great car to spend time in. I did seven hours in one day in it, and I jumped out of it feeling no worse than when I got in.

I've driven a 640i gran coupe and really liked it, but I could never see myself owning one.

Did 1000 miles one way from SW VA to Louisiana last year, then one day later did the return trip back. Felt great. One of these years we'll do a cross-country trip in it.

NATORabbit Only thing that's really annoying is the skip-shift, and that's deflatable with or without the eliminator. Once you get a feel for when it's going to engage, just hold out first gear a little longer and then you can shift into second normally. If I get caught mid-turn on a slow left turn, I'll pop it into neutral real quick and then throw it into third instead of fourth.

Skip Shift can be annoying if you're grandmaing around, happened to me going up a hill on my way home from work.

Also Rabbit, I'm at 3200 miles so I'll be catching up to SoS pretty soon I'm sure.

      Pic whoring just because.

Washed it since it was nice out today, and because the wheels were so gaddamn awful looking + car covered in salt.

      Things I learned:

Adams Polishes Deep Wheel Cleaner (pink stuff) will take the dust off of the calipers just by letting it sit and spraying with hose.

Next step is seeing if my 5th gen wheels will clear the Brembos up front and if so they'll get powder coated a high gloss black.
