Yep. I suspect this is just another fad for kids who can afford not to work. They've already had their fun gentrifying working class neighborhoods, so now they're gentrifying stinky old vans, too.
Now this was a superior machine. Ten grand worth of gimmicks and high-priced special effects. The rear windows lit up with a touch like frogs in a dynamite pond. The dashboard was full of esoteric lights and dials and meters that I would never understand.

      Riiiiiiiiiiight.

My "lawn" is an interesting and fanciful melange of Kentucky blue fescue, crab grass, clover, dandelions, assorted dog turds, and various bits of debris best attributed to the 90 years since this particular Sears catalog home was built. I still find bits of aluminum siding buried in the yard by the previous resident's dog who apparently chewed the shed to bits out of boredom.

Also: Heavy on the dog turds.

      Why?
As usual it's several things that have to be/happen together.

      1) The carburetor is above the distributor
      2) Hippies defer maintenance until it doesn't run at all
      3) fuel lines get old/leak
      4) fuel finds the distributor
      5) Whooof!

Of course I don't live in a trailer park. No garages there!

I have noticed a bunch of these vanlife people on Instagram and coincidentally stumbled upon the feed of the couple in the GIF on page one this morning. I have to wonder - how bad must it stink in one of these vans when it is you, your significant other, and a dog or two all crammed in all the time.

I used to want to take an old Grumman bread van and convert it into a camper. Given the price most VW vans are fetching these days it may be my only option.

Why do you think detractors call them "smelly hippies"?

Tell me about it. I sold my last one a little over 20 years ago for something like $3,000. Today it'd be $20,000!

There is a guy close to me selling two admittedly very clean Vanagon Westfalias for $40k each. I passed on a clean $4500 example 5 years ago because I felt the price was too high.

Even 5 years ago that was a smokin' deal. My last one was a '65 and while far from perfect, it was pretty solid, but needed a little work underneath to repair some rust. (Not much, mind you.) That's the one that would easily bring $20,000 today.

I had a '60 model, too. Plus a '66 Double cab and a '58 Single cab. They've all skyrocketed. Sigh.

I saw that, and thought it was poetic. I had the references right away.

What I'd like to know is if you used Gamo, Crosman, or RWS pellets.
