I was interest in this mod, since I also dislike the downgrade from a plastic battery box to a cloth blanket.

ECS Tuning sells the complete box, and their application guide claims it fits the 2012 Beetle 2.5L.

However, it didn't work for our car. Although the sides of the box align with and attach to the battery tray without issue, the cable routing is wrong. The (+) battery cables don't route cleanly into the box, and the (-) cable is on the opposite side of the box's cutout for the cable.

Nuts. This would be a nice OEM way to clean up the appearance of the engine bay.

What I found is that the negative battery cable is on the right side (looking aft, facing the car from the front) but the cut-out for that cable is on the left. And the cable is too short to reach around. Maybe Turbo engines are arranged differently? Anyone out there with a 2.5l?

Just buy a new ground cable. I swapped mine out to put the box in my Jetta S. Cable will run you about $5 online or used at a junk yard.

I'm going to give this mod another try, if for no other reason than how tired I am of cleaning corrosion off the factory (-) battery cable, so I might as well replace it anyway. Any particular one I should get?

Have you tried the carbon fiber cover kit that ECS has? Says it fits turbo I don't know about 2.5.

This mod is already too expensive at $60 + cost of new battery cable, I don't need to go up to $150. Not for a damned 2.5L, anyway.
